Sacrificial anodes (zinc, aluminum, or magnesium) are designed to wear away the engine and hull metals, preventing galvanic corrosion and maintaining the efficiency of the cooling system, propeller, sterndrive, and underwater appendages. The choice of material depends on the type of water: zinc for seawater, aluminum for brackish water, and magnesium for freshwater.
